Pentecostalism and Evangelicalism in the United States have been strange bedfellows since their marriage of convenience from the first half of the 20th century. Though African American Christians in general and African American Pentecostals, in particular, have not featured prominently in this alliance, many African American Christians still self-identify as Evangelical with all of the racial undercurrents that define the movement. White Evangelicalism has historically and contemporarily been buttressed by the racist ideology upon which the United States was founded and built. With eighty-five percent of White Evangelicals supporting the election of Donald J. Trump the 45th President of the United States, the sad truth became apparent that most White Evangelicals still cleave to racist ideologies that frame this nation.
