I called these Clicker Fingers because I dressed up as Joel from The Last of Us for Halloween, one of my favourite video games of all time (and soon an HBO TV show!) – but you can all them wizard fingers, witches finger cookies, or zombie finger cookies.

I find that Halloween recipes tend to be more cutesy than spooky. So I developed this recipe to be something spooky, maybe a bit too far on the edge of creepy, but something fun for both kids and adults.

These cookies use pistachios as a natural food color and the main flavor. They’re exceptionally delicious, with a crumbly melt-in-your-mouth texture. The fingernails are made of jam and a blanched almond. The recipe is very easy, even more if you have a food processor, and kid friendly to shape and decorate. These are a great way to get kids involved in the kitchen, but also fun grown ups who want to dress up and pretend there are monsters.

MAKING OF THIS VIDEO:
This video was made in the middle of the night, across 2 weeks of filming and editing.

I filmed this in my backyard and kitchen. My friend Sam helped get the third-person shots, one frantic evening after work – she was free for 2 hours on the day the Joel shirt arrived! – but otherwise I filmed everything myself on tripods in the middle of the night. I had to re-shoot shaping the cookies with different lighting, because the stark lighting made it too hard to properly demonstrate how to do that.

The theme song is original, made by my friend Lex, and the remaining music was licensed from SoundStripe. The clicker sound effects were created by my friend Brett, based on nothing more than instructions in the TLOU documentary. The remaining sound effects are licensed from SoundStripe (I have a subscription with them, not sponsored).

All of the graphics were created by me in Adobe Illustrator. I tried my best to get video game accuracy in re-drawing everything, while also being a bit silly. I hope you noticed the "ammo reload" of the food processor. If anyone from Naughty Dog's UI/UX team is reading this: I hope I made you proud.

The kitchen actually does look apocalytpic in real life right now – my fridge and freezer normally have walnut doors (they are integrated into the cabinetry) but they are at the cabinet makers shop for some repairs. It worked out to have the very strange steel doors with warning stickers! So, while frustrating my kitchen is in pieces, it worked out.

For the recipe itself, I started developing it in August and it took around 9 batches to get it consistent. I really wanted something that was naturally green, easy and consistent to repeat, and tastes great. I'm very proud of this recipe.

I bought a Streamlight 88087 ProTac 90 Right-Angle Light for the flashlight strapped to the backpack. I also used L'Oreal grey hairspray to a moderate effect, and Halloween face paint for the scar.

IN MY KITCHEN
Both the yellow "jetty" bowl and the striped "tulip" bowl are made by Sarah Hussaini (shopnotworkrelated.com) and made in Brooklyn, NY.

I have the Breville Sous Chef 16 cup food processor, which I love.
