On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the entry into force of the Maastricht Treaty, it is worth taking a glance at the political discourses that defined the era and examine which goals set in that exceptional historical period came into reality. In the given period, two main goals were defined: on the one hand, the continuous internal deepening of the integration, including the establishment of the Union - which became possible after the construction of the single internal market -, on the other hand, the doctrine of continuous geographical growth.
