Most beginner opening advice starts with what to play. This video starts with a much more important question: What does a beginner actually understand about chess?

Before recommending any opening, we first define the beginner’s perspective - the ideas that make sense intuitively at the early stages of learning: activity, development, king safety, center control, space, coordination, material, and pawn weaknesses.

Once that foundation is clear, we can finally judge openings honestly.

Why many popular openings (Sicilian, King’s Indian, Benko, London, Catalan, Réti, and others) are often learned too early;
What makes an opening healthy for beginners — beyond memorization or quick results;
Why principle-based responses like 1.e4 e5 and 1.d4 d5 make more sense at the start;

This is not a list of “best openings.” It’s a framework for choosing openings that match your current level, so you actually understand why your moves make sense.
