India recorded 40,425 new coronavirus cases and 681 deaths in the last 24 hours, in the biggest single-day jump, government data this morning showed. The fresh cases put the total tally in India at 11,18,043. Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has been asked to appear for questioning in an investigation into allegations of a conspiracy to pull down the Rajasthan government. Shekhawat, a senior BJP leader has denied the allegations. The petition by Sachin Pilot and 18 other rebel Congress MLAs against disqualification notices cannot be decided by any court before the Speaker takes action, Abhishek Manu Singhvi argued during a hearing at the Rajasthan High Court today. An angry mob is seen thrashing a Dalit man with sticks and shoes after pinning him to the ground in a video from Karnataka's Vijayapura district. The man - a Dalit- was allegedly stripped on Saturday and thrashed with his family, police said, adding that the crowd was angry because "he had touched a bike of a man who belonged to the upper caste.
