The NSW TrainLink V sets are the oldest class of electric train operating not only in NSW TrainLink, but all of Sydney. They come in a variety of batches, of which the oldest still in service are the Series 2 from 1977. Using Mitsubishi DC propulsion, they sound quite similar to the contemporary Queensland Rail EMUs. They will soon be replaced with the Mariyung/D sets, which will necessiate major widening works to the Blue Mountains line, which for many years has only seen the thinner V sets beyond Springwood.
