Digestate - A Source for Green Energy, Irrigation Water and Nutrients

Описание к видео Digestate - A Source for Green Energy, Irrigation Water and Nutrients

The mountainous region of Western Macedonia in #Greece used to supply more than 50% of the country's total energy production, but all lignite mines are scheduled to close by 2028, which could lead to unemployment and a decrease in the area's economy. One possible new source of revenue is #smartfarming and clean energy production.

In this video, we meet Yannis Mpisiritsas, a farmer from Western Macedonia who maintains a farm with animal husbandry and an adjacent #biogasplant. His challenge, however, is that the liquid residues from the biogas plant, #digestate, cannot be taken directly to the field as #fertilizer because it can be harmful to #soilhealth.

For such a situation, the European research project NOMAD has developed a mobile solution for decentralized biogas plants to process the digestate into high-quality organic #biofertiliser and remove #antibiotics from the residual water, which is then safe for irrigation. Take a look at how the NOMAD project aims to achieve this.
