How To: Key repair and reprogramming for 08-10 Dodge Grand Caravan / Chrysler Town & Country

We bought this van used with one working key. The previous owner gave us another key that didn’t work, but said that it could probably be reprogrammed. I replaced the battery and noticed that the key actually worked to open doors and even had the emergency spare cut correctly. It just didn’t start the vehicle. Why not take it apart??? :)

This led to an easy repair, but little confidence in the repaired key due to the broken plastic portion. However, Chrysler has a feature on this era vehicles where the owner can actually program new keys themselves by using two working keys. I guess they figured if you possess two keys for the vehicle, you are likely the owner. So... if I can somehow fix my broken key, than I now have two working keys... which then allows me to buy new blank keys and program them for the van!
