There's something on your mind

It’s difficult to know where to start to talk about Big Jay McNeely’s, There’s Something on your mind penned in 1959. Bobby Marchan had a No.1 R&B hit with it the following year and since then it has been the darling of Philadelphia soul and blues with notable versions by The Jolly Jax, Baby Ray, BB King and Buddy Guy. My favourite version is Baby Ray’s 1966 cut on his album, Where the soul is. Interestingly there aren't any pictures of him on the album or anywhere for that matter until you google Ray Welton Eddlemon where you might be able to find just one. It just so happens he was a white country singer - but you can’t tell from listening to his rendition. Many versions of the song feature a spoken middle section where the protagonist sinks into a jealous rage on discovering his partner’s adultery - it never ends well.
