The development of the 128mm anti-tank gun began in 1943, and the Flak 40 anti-aircraft gun was used as the base because of its good ballistic characteristics. The first prototypes were produced by Krupp and Rheinmetall-Borzig companies, but after tests, the Krupp gun was accepted for serial production. And in December 1943 it began to be produced under the designation Pak 44. 18 guns were produced until March 1944.
