Among the greatest of traditional Christmas texts, this song exclaims the grand narrative of the redemption story, from Christ's birth to His eventual rule and reign.

For as long as I can remember this Christmas hymn was the favorite of one of the most godly men I ever knew, my father-in-law, James E. Bliss, Sr. (1921-1997). I dedicate this to him.

At whose feet the shepherds fall?

Fasting in the wilderness?
