Doctors use eGFR (Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate) to track how well your kidneys are working. It’s calculated from your creatinine, age, gender, and more—not a separate test. Here's how kidney disease is staged:

Stage 1 (eGFR 90+): Kidney function is mostly normal; may show early signs like protein in urine.
Stage 2 (eGFR 60–89): Mild kidney damage; creatinine may slightly increase.
