I have uploaded three performance versions of Cascade Of The Seven Waterfalls in separate videos as examples of jazz improvisation. These videos were extracted from live recorded DVDs of evenings at Steamers Jazz Club in Fullerton, CA with my trio including Todd Johnson on 6-string electric bass and Kendall Kay on drums. This video is from January 6, 2011 (December 6, 2007 and June 3, 2010 are also on my channel).
Notes:
I recorded this tune on my 1992 album Mo' Strings Attached, which was at the beginning of developing arrangements with seamless transitions between the 7-string guitar and the 6-string bass trading the chording and bass lines.
By the time of these videoed performances in 2007, 2010, and 2011, we rarely played this song, but we were so in tune with each other that there was much space for stretching out during solos and exploring the harmony.
About Azymuth and Cascade Of The Seven Waterfalls:
Alex Malheiros, the bassist and guitarist for the Brazilian jazz-funk trio Azymuth, wrote this song about the beautiful Salto das Sete Quedas do Guaíra, a series of immense waterfalls on the Paraná River along the border between Brazil and Paraguay.
Azymuth recorded this song for their 1982 album Cascades, but later in 1982 the falls were inundated by the building of a reservoir and now no longer exist.
