We were never meant to Survive - Audre Lorde (Popular Poems)

Audre Lorde's poem, "Litany for Survival" was first published in Lorde's 1978 collection, "The Black Unicorn". This poem is about how some people are always afraid because they face a lot of problems and dangers in their lives. These people are different from most people in some ways, like their skin colour, their gender, or who they love. They are often treated badly or unfairly by some people who do not understand them or respect them. Every day, they have to make hard choices and do not know what will happen to them or their families. They have to keep living and fighting even if some people think they do not deserve to live.

As Lorde said in an interview, “We have to be able to speak our truth.” So we should not be afraid to be ourselves and stand up for what we believe in and support and care for each other, especially those who are facing difficulties or oppression. I hope you enjoy listening to this poem, and I hope it makes you think about your own life and the world around you.
