🔍 Episode Overview:
Officer Keith Santini noticed a car parked illegally. It was November 11, 2023, around 6:05 PM. The Scion had been there 15 minutes. It was on the beach block of 104th street. This area had a no parking rule. As he got closer, he smelled burnt cannabis. Two women were in the car. The driver was 19-year-old Tara. Tara admitted she had smoked in her car.

Sergeant Robert Walker arrived to help. They asked Tara to say the alphabet. She had to count backward too. Tara struggled with the alphabet at first. Officer Santini made a call. He learned Tara needed field sobriety tests. She showed signs of being impaired.

The first test was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus. Next, she took the Walk and Turn test. During this test, Tara did not walk heel-to-toe. She took the wrong number of steps. Her turn was also incorrect. The last test was the One Leg Stand. Tara could not lift her foot right. She used her arms for balance.

Because of the cannabis smell, her admission, and failing the tests, Tara was arrested. Officer Santini charged her with drunk driving. Her car was held for 12 hours. This was under John’s Law. Officer Santini took Tara to the police station.

At the station, Tara heard the Standard Statement. She agreed to give breath samples. Her breath test showed no alcohol. Her BAC was 0.00%. Even without alcohol, she admitted to smoking. The officers took her for a blood test. Results showed Amphetamine, Alprazolam, THC, and THC-COOH. Tara was later released. She must appear in court.

Officer Santini gave Tara tickets. One was for driving under the influence. The other was for parking too close to a sea wall. Court records show a change on July 1, 2024. The driving charge became reckless driving. Tara lost her license for 45 days. She paid $240 in fines. The parking ticket was dropped.

Tara was arrested before. On October 12, 2023, she was charged with receiving stolen property.
