Even as Cyclone Montha hovers over the Bay of Bengal, the Puri district administration has gone on high alert, implementing stringent safety measures and cancelling all official leaves till October 30.

District Collector has directed all departments to ensure round-the-clock vigilance and strict adherence to disaster protocols. Surveillance across the Puri coastline has been intensified, with 450 lifeguards deployed across 14 beach sectors, now marked as red zones.

Tourists have been strictly prohibited from entering the sea, with police and lifeguard teams maintaining continuous patrols. Officials confirmed that wave height and wind speed have increased due to the cyclone’s influence, prompting the hoisting of red flags along the beach.

Awareness drives are underway to alert visitors about sea hazards, while teams equipped with megaphones, oxygen cylinders, stretchers, and rescue tubes stand ready for any emergency.
Authorities reiterated that public cooperation remains vital as Cyclone Montha approaches coastal Odisha.
