Sound archivist Mara Voss arrives in the lakeside town of Glasswater to resurrect a dead late-night radio station. The town is postcard-soft—cedars, neon, diner smiles—but it carries a hidden audio artifact locals pretend not to notice: the Undertone, a low bass “twang” that appears on recordings whenever someone denies their own truth.

Mara finds evidence that the station’s last engineer, Evan Hale, vanished while trying to capture the Undertone. His notes describe a split reality: Glasswater has an “above” (polite, nostalgic) and a “below” (confessional, hungry). A living archive called the Red Map Room rearranges roads to match what you won’t admit. A payphone speaks in loops. A carousel shows your alternate self. Under the bridge, residents “sing” their secrets as undertones to keep from breaking.

As Mara digs deeper, she learns Evan didn’t leave—he fractured, part trapped inside the station’s signal loop. Worse: Mara recognizes the Undertone because she came to Glasswater to disappear. In the Mirror Orchard, she meets the version of herself that wants to vanish and finally speaks the hidden motive aloud. The Undertone changes: not a monster, but a bell that rings when truth is overdue.

In the finale, Mara rebuilds the broadcast chain, re-records the Undertone as a lullaby, and transmits it across Glasswater. The signal doesn’t purify the town—it makes its duality audible so people can stop acting innocent. By dawn, the town remains strange, but honest. Mara leaves with a reel labeled “Dawn: Two Colors”—proof the beauty and dread were always the same code.
