An aircraft carrier is a warship that serves as a seagoing airbase, equipped with a full-length flight deck and facilities for carrying, arming, deploying, and recovering aircraft. Typically, it is the capital ship of a fleet, as it allows a naval force to project air power worldwide without depending on local bases for staging aircraft operations. The US Aircraft Carrier fleet comprises 11 carriers which are all nuclear-powered and are divided into East Coast and West Coast carriers. Each Aircraft Carrier is usually deployed for 6 months in one go in different parts of the world. The deployment policy is designed so that a US aircraft will be present at every naval chokepoint such as International Waterways etc. The nuclear-powered Dwight D. Eisenhower or Ike carrier strike group, an East Coast Strike group, was deployed in the Red Sea and Bab al Mandeb strait to fight the Houthi onslaught against merchant ships; the strike group saw the deployment for 8 months before it was released. Meanwhile, at present, there is no East Coast aircraft carrier available that will replace Ike in the Red Sea. For the first time ever, a West Coast Carrier strike group, USS Harry S. Truman, will replace Ike in the red and Mediterranian sea. This incident highlights the ongoing debate about 11 US aircraft carriers are not enough to make sure American hegemony remains intact in the world.
