The aim of the game in Haru Ichiban is for each player to manipulate the lotus blossoms in the pond so they make the following 4 different arrangements in order to be the first to gain 5 points and thus gain the favour of the emperor.

Haru Ichiban is an easy to learn quirky two player connect 4 style abstract game that has a surprising depth of choices and options per turn with a tug of war type effect between players struggling to complete their arrangements.
