In this Cubase tutorial, Dom Sigalas looks at using sidechain in your music production for different effects. These include adding groove with the classic sidechain pumping effect and blending elements using the Frequency 2 EQ in sidechain mode. In Frequency 2 you can have up to eight sidechains on different EQ bands, setting the attack and release to your material for maintaining loop fullness. By sidechaining synth ARP to vocals with Frequency 2 EQ in MS mode, you can make room for vocals, giving them room to shine. You can use sidechaining to create rhythmic gated effects, creating a choppy or smooth sound with the Threshold and Hold function, on pads drones vocals guitars and more. If you use the Retrologue 2 sidechain input in Cubase 11, you can also radically change a sound using the Retrologue filter and arpeggiator.
