This is the Crazy Tube Circuits Heatseeker: an AC/DC and Angus Young-inspired three-in-one Marshall In A Box overdrive pedal with an added Boost side and plenty of unique special features!

Crazy Tube Circuits always go all-in with their pedals, and the Heatseeker is no exception. If you’re someone who craves all the AC/DC tones and more from a single pedal, then the Heatseeker could bring the heat you need!

While it’s clearly inspired by AC/DC and the brother Angus and Malcolm Young, though, the Heatseeker could just be the perfect Marshall (x3!) In A Box pedal for any guitar player.

It starts with the three circuits: you get a JTM45, a 1959 Super Lead, and a late 70s JMP 2203 – a JCM 800 with a Master Volume – on tap as the main drive sounds here, along with loads of tonal sculpting options. The Heatseeker is powered by an all-analogue JFET circuit, by the way, so there’s no digital modeling involved at all.

The three circuits are selected via the flick of a switch, and you get Master (which is the volume here), Presence, Volume (which is the gain control on the Heatseeker), Bass, Middle and Treble controls for each.

There’s also a Wall Of Sound switch, which Crazy Tube Circuits have added to take your tone from sounding like one cooking Marshall amp to sounding like a whole – you guessed it – wall of cooking Marshall amps! The WoS switch adds in a load of level, bottom end and high mids beef, and it’s a true thing of savage beauty.

The other side of the pedal is the Boost/Enhance side, which is inspired by the Schaffer Vega Diversity vintage wireless system that Angus Young swears by. Here, the level control gives you up to 15dB of additional clean boost, and the Enhance knob blends in more harmonics, compression and dynamic response into your signal.

All this sounds like a LOT of pedal, then. From the warm yet sparkly tones of the JTM45 to the sizzling rock roar of the 1959 Super Lead and the all-out high gain rock assault of the 2203, the Heatseeker promises to take any boring clean amp and give it a huge range of Marshall-esque drive tones, from pushed cleans to heavy metal raucousness.

The Heatseeker costs €279, by the way, and is handmade in Athens, Greece. But… how good does it actually sound? Is it strictly for AC/DC fans only, or can any fan of overdrive find their tone in the Heatseeker? It’s time to find out!

In the video, I put the pedal through its paces in as many musical styles as possible, from the obvious classic and hard rock tones to country, blues, pop, punk, indie and even some metal, to hear how many usable sounds we can get out of it.

I also run a loop through the Heatseeker so we really get to twist the knobs and hear how it versatile it truly is. My guitars today are my trusty Fender Telecaster (for single coil tones) and my humbucker-equipped Epiphone Les Paul – so we’ll really hear all the tones the pedal has to offer.

My setup was as follows: I ran the Royal Blue into my Hughes & Kettner Black Spirit 200 amp head. The amp went from the Red Box AE+ DI out straight into my Zoom H6 recorder. That's it. No post-processing on the sounds was done.
