Chandrabadani Mandir is located on the top of Chandrakoot Parvat in Himalayas in Tehri Garwal area. This temple is situated at a height of 2277 meters from the sea level. In winter snowfall also happens here. This temple is a Shaktipeeth as Maa Sati's torso fell here when Lord Vishnu cut her body with his Sudarshanchakra into 51 parts. The places where these 51 parts fell down became Shaktipeethas.

Sati's father Dakshaprajapati performed a Yagya and not invited his aughter Sati as she married to Lord Shiva against Daksha's wishes. He was angry with her and her husband Shiva. But Sati went to the Yagya forcefully objecting her husband's advice not to attend the penance. There Daksha abused Lord Shiva and with great sorrow and anger Sati jumped into the fire of Yagyakund and sacrificed here life.

There is one more village temple before this temple on the way namely Hungot Devta Mandir.
