Wood Eating Plecos - Panaqolus vs Panaque (Royal Plecos)

What is the care and differences between two of the main wood eating pleco genera and do they eat wood at all? Panaqolus including the clown, flash and mustard spot plecos vs. Panaque including the royal plecos. These are very popular fishes in the home aquarium but have a lot of debate about them particularly their diets.
