There are five Jankus performed during the lifetime of the person if they live up to 106 years old. Their first Janku is celebrated when they are weaned on solid foods. Their remaining Jankus are celebrated when they are approximately 77, 82, 88, 99 and 105 years old13
During the Janku, the person is treated like a bride or groom, dressed in traditional attire and paraded around the city in a chariot. They visit different temples and receive blessings from the priests and the public. After their last Janku, they are considered as a symbol of divinity and respected by the community14
