Milling a 43 inch log with a 56 inch blade on a Frick Sawmill

This week we finally got around to making 2" thick (8 quarter for the woodworkers...) oak slabs from one of Eric's big oak logs. We wanted 12 foot long boards, so the feller left the base of the tree on this log, so while the "skinny" end of this was 34 inches, the butt end was well over 40 inches. And with a 56 inch blade we can't slice it since our blade does about 26 inches maximum. Doug suggested we "pencil" it to make it smaller. I think that's a good plan, but with a red oak log that probably weighs close to 4,000 pounds it was hard to roll and it knocked the sled off the rail once. Fortunately, we had Dan (AKA Muscles) along with Eric, Matt, Pete, Tom and Allen to get things on track. Thanks for watching! Please click subscribe and give this a thumbs up!
