The Hike:
The hike to Stoddard Fallsnear Mt Baldy is approximately 3/4 mile each way and is rated as moderate in difficulty. The trail offers a mix of shaded paths and open stretches with stunning vistas. To get down to the canyon floor pass the large fall and look to your left for 3 markers, a big tree, a large rock and rope around a cement pylon that has now been knocked over, but the rope is still there that shows where to go down and to assist your decent. Do NOT try it at the first decent down, its steeper and loose rocks make it sketchy. When at the creek go left and you'll pass through lush foliage, cross gentle streams, and soak in the beauty of nature.
Waterfalls and Pools:
The highlight of the hike awaits - Stoddard Falls! As you approach, the sound of rushing water will guide you to this natural wonder. Take a moment to marvel at the cascading waters, snap some photos, and feel the cool mist on your face. You can dip your feet in the crystal-clear natural pools to refresh yourself or just jump in like we did! The first pool is like a tropical paradise.
Thrilling Waterside:
Now, let's amp up the excitement! Just a short distance up the eroded road from the parking lot you can access the top of the falls before descending to the canyon floor if you like. That is where you can slide down the 40' waterslide if you know its SAFE, always check depth first and for rocks, the natural pools at waterfalls change continuously. Here you'll find the adrenaline-pumping, a 40-foot waterslide. Take caution and check the water depth before sliding down, as it can vary with the season. It's an exhilarating experience you won't want to miss.
Helpful Tips:
1. Wear comfortable and sturdy hiking shoes to tackle the uneven terrain.
2. Bring a hat, sunscreen, and bug repellent to stay protected from the sun and insects.
3. Carry a backpack with essentials, including snacks, first aid kit and water.
4. Follow the creek to the left of decent and please respect the natural environment.
5. If you plan to swim, bring a towel and a change of clothes.
6. Leave no trace - pack out all your trash and be mindful of the environment.
