Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer.com. Today on our 2018 Ram 3500, we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Dee Zee truck bed auxiliary fuel tank. We will be doing that in conjunction with the Dee Zee connector kit. And since it does tie into our factory fuel tank we can either increase the overall capacity of our truck's fuel system or we can close the valve off and use this as an auxiliary tank. So whether you're using it around the farm or the job site, you can even put a pump in here, it's gonna get both things done. Now, one of the things I really like about this tank is that it's going to be a little more compact than some of the other ones.

From the front of our truck bed here to the edge of the tank it's going to be about 9-1/4 inches and that measurement is going to help you figure out how much space it's going to take up in the front of your truck. Now as far as the overall length of our tank it's going to be 59-1/2 inches. So when it centered here in the bed of our truck we're going to have about 2-1/2 inches or so on each side and that's still going to give us plenty of room to be able to get a tow strap around our hook and plenty of room to get your hand down here and turn your valve. So for those shippers or those long distance journeys you're gonna be able to spend more time on the road because we're not gonna have to stop and fill up so much. It's also gonna work good for those work trucks.

We're not gonna have to fiddle around every day filling up those small gas cans. You can fill up your tank and be good for a few days. Now many of our customers ask if they're able to use a tonneau cover with our tank. Now even though the top of the tank is pretty much flushed with the top of the bed, our cap is going to stick up a couple inches. Some more times than not.

We're probably not going to be able to use that cover. The tank itself is going to be made from aluminum. So not only is it going to be lightweight, we're not gonna have to worry about it rusting. Now I'll show you how it works. In this case, I have my valve in this position so it is closed.

And come up here and open up our tank. So now we can take some fuel and pour it in. Once you filled it up, go ahead and pop your lid back on. Now if you wanna keep the fuel inside of our aluminum tank isolated, you'd simply just leave your valve in the off position. But if you wanted it to go down into our factory tank you'd flip it down to open it up. Now inside of our tank we're going to have three stability baffles. And what those are gonna do is help eliminate any sloshing from side to side. Now one more thing I like about this tank is that we're going to have an option on which side to fill it up from. On the driver's side we have our cap, but if you wanted to over here on the passenger side, you could remove this plug and put the cap over here, or you could even remove this and use it for a pump. In this day and age, with everything being so high tech it's actually quite refreshing to see something so simple, but yet effective and it's actually not too bad to install either. Speaking of which, let's go ahead and do it together now. To begin our install, I went ahead and set our tank on the tailgate of our truck and we're gonna be working over here on the driver's side by this bung. We're going to need to remove this plug and replace it with a shutoff valve. I just take an Allen key and pull it out. Now we're gonna take our shutoff valve and on the threads put some sealer. That way we don't have to worry about any leaks or anything like that. Go ahead and screw this into the bung. Now we're gonna do the same thing with our fitting. Make sure to get that thread sealer on there. We can screw it into our valve. Now you're gonna want the end of it to face down towards the bed. That way the fuel can run down. We don't wanna get these too tight, but you do want them tight enough where it's not gonna leak. I went ahead and took our tank and pushed it up to the front of our bed and centered it where you'd want it to be. That way we can mark the spots that we need to drill for our attachment points. We're going to have four attachment points one on each side of the tank. So I'll just use a paint pen and through the whole to get it marked. And we're going to have two more at the base of the tank, one on each side. We're gonna have one more spot that we need to mark. That's over here by the valve because a hose is going to get attached to this and run down through the bed. So I went ahead and mark it right there. With everythin
