Bioinformatics - Tim Stevens

In this video Tim discusses how to start using bioinformatics for biological research whether for causal use or to deep dive into the subject. He highlights some of the wide range of publicly available databases containing biological information at different levels from primary sequences, through structure, function, to interactions and pathways. He talks about his own research on genes with unknown function and soon to be launched website. Next, he discusses bioinformatic tools for alignment, next-gen sequence analysis and comparative modelling. He gives tips on getting started with biocomputing and the important of statistics In the last part of the talk, he gives a brief introduction to machine learning.
