It's important to stay connected and up-to-date on the latest happenings, but to what cost? There are some tips to keep in mind that may help you cut your cable bill.
Cable is expensive, and a number of Channel 3 viewers have said the same.
"It's ridiculous, I probably pay almost $200 a month," Katie King said.
"Just over $150," said Justin Pace.
"A little over $100," said Matt Siemans.
"Just over $200," said Michelle Cramer.
If your monthly bill makes you shudder, you're not alone. But there are ways to slash it. Sometimes being upfront pays off; call your provider and ask for a discount.
"When we called we got upgraded equipment and things like that," Cramer said. "And I think they may have reduced our bill by ten bucks."
If calling doesn't work, you can always compare your bill with other providers.
Then threaten to switch.
"Every once in a while I'll call the competitor and get a price quote," King said. "Then, I'll call Cox and say, 'Hey I got this price quote,' and they usually knock my bill down."
Lack of competition, or cable restrictions based on your location don't always allow you to do that. So there are other ways to keep your bill low, such as bundling your services.
"For the internet right now it's about $45," Siemans said. "If I did it by itself, it would be about $60 to $65."
Often times bundling will leave you with services you don't use, or extra channels you'll never watch.
"It's just odd to me that even in my bundle I have to have a phone line into my house but I don't have a phone," Pace said.
Streaming services is another option to turn to. They are becoming increasingly popular, with some choosing to cut the cable cord.
"We have Netflix and Amazon," Pace said.
"I have Netflix, Hulu, HBO GO, Showtime on Demand," Siemans added.
"We do have a subscription to Netflix," Cramer said.
"Amazon and Netflix," said King.
An Amazon Prime video subscription will cost you about $99 a year, or $8.25 a month. Netflix and Hulu both start at $7.99 and offer different package plans. Your first month is free with all three streaming services.
Choosing which is right for you depends on the shows and movies you like to binge watch. But one thing is for sure, no matter how you watch TV, stay tuned in to Channel 3.
