Fiatagri 160-90 DT ploughing | *Pure Sound* | Tillage 2022

Ploughing some Dutch clay soil with a highly original Fiatagri 1690-90 DT and Rumptstad RSP 2000 four furrow plough. These tractors are now very rare in the Netherlands as they are sought after models for the export market. Especially seeing one carrying out a frontline role on an arable farm is special.

Fiatagri of Turin, Italy, introduced the new large frame 90-series in 1984. With its 6 cylinder turbocharged 8,1L Fiat 8365.25 engine it shares the same block as the larger 180-90 sibling. This model pushes out 160 HP and weighs 6.700 kg. It was available with a regular 16x16 column shift transmission (as seen in this model) or the optional power shift 24x8 transmission.

The sound is music to the ears of any tractor enthusiast, especially as it is revving up. The gutsy engine has a lot of over capacity and its a lot larger than the 5,8L seen on the smaller models. The 160-90 was a direct replacement for the similar 1580 DT, its Pinifarina styled cab being slightly larger albeit still a relatively small workplace. The large 90-series were replaced in 1994 by the totally different G-series, that entered the Fiatagri product portfolio after having acquired Ford in 1991. By this time the 160-90 and the other models were becoming very dated. This wasn't the end of the production as a similar model was kept in production for certain markets in Eastern Europe and South America up until the 2000s.
