Vatican Museums Free Entry! but a looong waiting time in the queue [4K]

Vatican Museums display works from the immense collection amassed by the Catholic Church and the papacy throughout the centuries, and they are open to the public. You can visit anytime paying an entrance fee, however, the last Sunday of every month is free, hence the long queue.

How? Why?
