WHO’s aim is to ensure the right to health and universal health care. Around the world we witness health workers who selflessly serve their communities, often with very little resources, and sometimes at great risk to their own lives. We want to minimize disruptions to health care delivery so that everyone who needs care—especially the most vulnerable-- has access to it. Despite the essential role of health care facilities and workers in all of our lives, they come under attack and may even be targeted in emergency situations. These attacks interfere with the right to health, undermine the delivery of health care thus depriving people of urgently needed, life-saving care, endanger those who are dedicating their lives to providing health care, and are flagrant violations of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights Law.
