"The Sweater" Short Film based on the song "Laurie (Strange Things Happen)" by Dickey Lee

This is for my video production class this semester but is also a personal film. It represents a bonding experience I had with my dad while we were driving across the country together. During the many hours of driving time, we had to think of something to keep ourselves from getting too bored. My dad realized I could pretty much pull up any song out there on my smartphone's Youtube app so he started listing some of his old favorites from the 50s' and 60's and I started pulling them up and playing them. It was fun to see him so excited about all these songs that were nostalgic to him.

One song that I pulled up really stood out to me. It was called "Laurie (Strange Things Happen" by Dickey Lee...and strange it was, yet very intriguing. It had such a happy, catchy melody yet the subject matter was on the darker side. It stood out to me ever since and I would even play it on my own periodically.

When I needed to think of a short film to create for this class, I couldn't think of any ideas for the longest time. The creative juices weren't flowing. However, almost at the last minute for when I needed to have my story pitch decided, it came to. A thought popped into my head, "a short film based on 'Strange Things Happen' would make a perfect short film." I pictured it in my head almost instantaneously and knew, even though it would be a bigger undertaking and a challenge, that I could make this film.
