Repairing Old Barn (Stick Welding 7018)

In this video, we will be replacing a post in an old barn. We will be doing this by capping and existing 4 1/2" gate post and welding a piece of 2 7/8" pipe on it to support the barn. We used 3/32 7018 stick rod to weld everything in this video, including the cap and the 2 7/8" pipe. I was told this barn has been here for 40 years give or take. So even though this is crazy that this old metal post has completely rotted away it has lasted a very long time. I believe there is a time and a place for used pipe and a time and a place for new pipe. But either way, the neat thing about having welding skills and a mobile welding rig is the ability to re-do or replace certain parts of old projects, structures, fence, ect.
