There were 200 people who were imprisoned after us but they were released after one or one and a half years. We 80 people are now about to be released. I am very very happy. STORYLINE:
Pakistan released 80 Indian fishermen on Thursday from a prison in Karachi.

They had been imprisoned after they entered Pakistani territorial waters.

"They arrested us and put us in prison. It has been more than three years when I was arrested," said Sanjay Laxman, 24, one of the released prisoners.

He said: “We were on the sea to catch fish and earn our livelihood."

Pakistan and India frequently arrest each other’s fishermen for entering their waters.

It takes months and in some cases years for them to be released.

“Fishermen enter Pakistan’s waters inadvertently while catching fish. Our forces arrest them and start the process of their identity verification," said Saad Edhi, of the Edhi Foundation charity, which has been given the responsibility to transport the released prisoners to the Wagah border.

"For some it is over in six months. For others it might take four years.”

The released fishermen will cross the border into India on Friday.
