WNBA Star Angel Reese Invests In Black-Led Skincare Brand Topicals, Pushing Total Funding Past $22.6M

WNBA standout Angel Reese has joined the investor lineup for Topicals, the Black-led skincare brand founded by Olamide Olowe. The company confirmed it recently closed a new funding round that includes Reese—along with Nigerian music star Rema—as part of a broader push to bring culturally influential backers into the business. The financial terms of the round were not disclosed, but the investment brings Topicals’ total funding raised to more than $22.6 million since launching in 2020.

Topicals has built a strong reputation by blending clinical-grade skincare with community-first branding, especially for concerns that often impact people of color, including hyperpigmentation and dark spots. The brand’s products—such as its widely known Faded serum and under-eye patches—have helped it become a viral favorite with a loyal customer base.

According to reporting on the round, Topicals is also responding to a tougher fundraising environment by leaning into investors who bring more than money—people with “capital in the culture” who can amplify awareness and credibility with the audiences the brand already serves.

For Reese, the move fits a growing trend of athletes taking equity stakes in consumer brands. and using their platforms to help drive growth. For Topicals, it’s another signal that even as traditional venture funding tightens, Black-led companies are finding new paths to scale—by pairing product innovation with high-visibility supporters who can move culture and commerce at the same time.
