Sailing SCAMPs on a blustery day

Описание к видео Sailing SCAMPs on a blustery day

SCAMP #330 Wildflower and SCAMP #6 B Frank sailing on Tomales Bay on a blustery day in June 2024. I am launching from my usual spot at Marconi Cove with my good buddy Thom. He bought #6 from Dan Phy. #6 has a storied history, and is a great boat. Winds were brisk from 15-18 knots, although are friend Doug figured them to be 18-20. Either way, we started with 2 reefs in and stayed that way. The boat sails so well even in brisk conditions. Amazing for a 12 foot boat! The balanced lug rig is so tunable and easy to manage in these winds. And the water ballast makes for a stable boat. The ride is dry, although you will see me get splashed at one point in the video. #6 is new to Thom, and although he is an experienced sailor a new to you boat takes some tuning. So we got it better dialed in. We added a temporary “bleater” (thank you Michael Storer) to the mast and boom to allow for better upwind sailing on port tack. Makes all the difference.

All footage is from Insta360x3 camera with a little iPhone video too, and a photo from Doug. Edited with Lumatouch from LumaFusion.
