"What we hope to do is to transform this area, away from being London's back yard, into being one of the best-developed, most exciting, most high-income, productive areas of the country" - John Mills, London Docklands Development Corporation (LDDC).

Chris Lowe introduces a report by Martin Young about the rapidly developing London Docklands, the result of a regeneration project encompassing a vast area of London, which is being overseen by the London Docklands Development Corporation. The LDDC's lofty aims for the area are seemingly out of step with many local residents, however, who feel that they are being priced out of the area in favour of big city interests, 'yuppies' and private developers.
