I picked up the 2024 Pope’s Imperial Pumpkin Ale while visiting Millersburg Brewing Company in Millersburg Ohio at the Beginning of August of 2025. The bartender told me it was the 2024 version when I inquired about it and being a year old they were selling 4 packs of Pope’s Imperial Pumpkin Ale for $5. At $5 a 4 pack I figured it was worth picking up this 2018 World Beer Cup Bronze Medal beer. Pope’s Imperial Pumpkin Ale contains 9%abv and 13 IBUs. The beer poured out an amber color with a thin head. The nose was full of big pumpkin spices but more on the side of a spiced beer smell than a pumpkin spice beer. The flavors were odd. I picked up fresh melon or cantaloupe and some spices. The flavors were quite tasty surprisingly. However, I would not expect that flavor in a pumpkin beer. There was not much if any pumpkin flavor in this beer. Viewing it as a pumpkin beer this would be a skip. That being said, I really enjoyed the flavor of the beer. If I just rate it on flavor and not what the can says it is I would give this a horns up for sure. Even though it was not a pumpkin flavor like it was supposed to be, the flavors it did have were really good and I look forward to drinking the other cans. Have you ever had a beer that didn’t taste anything like the description on the can at all but still tasted really good?
