DIY Giant Cupcake Fairy House Jar
In this video I show you how I made a giant cupcake cookie jar. Like in many of my previous videos I used tinfoil, a big olives jar, watercolors, hot glue and paper clay "Das modelling material". It’s fun to make and you can use it as cookie jar for a candy bar, birthday party, thank you gift for a baby shower, baby room decoration, piggy bank, jewlery box, candy jar and so on.
So you need an empty jar with lid, aluminum foil, paper clay (the one that mantains its size when dry - I used “DAS modelling material” a great paper clay, but the secret is to water it a little and work it in your hand before you use it, to make it smoother), hot glue and water colors. (A lot of you asked me if you can use polymer clay on this kind of projects. Of course you can use polymer clay but for bigger jars like the one I used in this video you will have to use a lot of polymer clay and the whole project will become expensive. You will be able to save a lot of material using thin foil but still, I would recommend you to use paper clay.) Choose some jars and clean them with hot water and soap. Start covering the jar with a layer of clay. Decide where your door and windows will be and also their shape. Start shaping some tinfoil into a swirly cream. I used long stripes of rolled tinfoil for this step. Integrate the lid at the bottom. Glue the tinfoil to itself and to the jar’s lid using hot glue. Cover the tinfoil shape with a layer of clay and smooth it using water. Let everything dry. Apply another layer of clay to create textures and details if you feel like it. I added some stripes of clay to make a nice icecream cone texture. I also added some dripping cream at the bottom of the swirly cream, just beneath the jar's lid. If the clay doesn’t stick to the previous layer I recomand you to water the areas you want to work on. Also keep a water container near by to wet your hands and working utensils when they get sticky. Use water to achieve smooth and shiny surfaces. Paint your cupcakes in the desired colors. I used watercolors because they get sucked in the clay and don't peal off like it happened to me with acrylic paint. If you use watercolors for this step I recommend you seal them in the end with varnish or regular hair spray.
