White spot disease, also known as Ich, commonly refers to Ichthyophthirius multifiliis in freshwater systems and Cryptocaryon irritans in saltwater systems. As the name suggests, this parasite causes white spots to form on the sides of your fish. But there are a few things that look very similar!

Clinical signs of white spot disease include visible white spots, increased respiratory effort, lethargy, decreased appetite and sudden death. This is not a parasite to be taken lightly.
