Presentation of two workshops at ENPC:

1) Arch design (Resp. O. Baverel & M. Brocato)
Overview of the design of masonry structures. Basic notions for for engineers like graphical statics and limit analysis. Realization of a remarkable polystyrene arch of 4 m span.

2) Building free-form (resp. C. Douthe & L. du Peloux)
Most of the week is organized around the realization of a wooden elastic gridshell on full scale. The project is based on the Thinkshell team's know-how on elastic gridshells and on historical examples such as the Mannheim gridshell. It explores several innovative methods, in particular the generation of shapes allowing coverage with quad flat panels and the automation/ robotization of part of the production tasks.
The preliminary design studies of the pavilion are carried out upstream of the week, so that students can concentrate on dimensioning, execution and realization.
