The NBA lost its mind last night… The Hornets are suddenly unstoppable!
And the battle between Maxey and Keyonte was electric.
But we gotta start in MSG where Chet Holmgren went nuts from beyond the arc. He was a Chet code in the 1st quarter, hitting 4 - 3’s for 14 out of his 28 points. SGA was super efficient as well, getting to his spots at will and knocking them mid-range buckets with ease. But on this play, he made the entire arena mad because…
Wow, Mike Brown was irate at the refs for not calling the charge by Alexander. And he had every right to be so, cuz Brunson clearly got there first. Anyway, with all that being said, the Knicks were still competing. OG drains the corner 3 and makes it a 2 point game. But in the 2nd period, he couldn’t hit a 3 to save his life, and so did the rest of New York’s squad. They shot just 1 of 10 from distance, while Chet and the Thunder were still blazing hot. Holmgren was on fuego, putting his team up by 12 with his 6th - 3 of the night. OKC’s lead grew up to 15 in the 3rd, when the Knicks finally flipped the switch and started playing like they’re supposed to. Bridges finishes the killer transition to get the crowd buzzing. And Mike Daegnault had to call a timeout after this furious 13 to 4 run. Coming out of it, nothing really changed, as the Knicks led by Shamet and Brunson completely turned the game around. Jalen tied the game with back-to-back triples, and the fans were all on their feet waiting to explode at the end of the period. Mikal Bridges caps of the amazing 40 point quarter to take over the lead. Let’s go! And at the start of the 4th, the Knicks were still rolling.
Towns led the way with a huge double double of 17 points and 17 boards, but the Knicks well dried up in the following minutes, and the Thunder used that to get right back on top. New York shot 7 of 21 when it mattered the most, and for more than 5 minutes, OG Anunoby was the sole guy scoring for them. But boi did he make the building shake…
Anunoby throws down the poster jam on Holmgren and cuts the deficit to 3 points. And the game turned into a slugfest down the stretch, with both teams refusing to give an inch of space for an open shot. Nothing came easy, but the Thunder somehow managed to create themselves some breathing room. Shai puts his team up by 7 with little over a minute to go, but Jalen Brunson stays calm in the clutch and pulls out some crucial plays on both ends of the court. Captain Crunchtime delivers for the thousandth time in MSG, singlehandedly making it a 1 possession game. And after Chet Holmgren fails to hit the dagger over Shamet, the Knicks all of a sudden have a chance to force an overtime! Maaan, both Brunson and OG had solid looks but both hit iron, and that’s all she wrote for this one. Shooting just 10 of 36 from long-range, it’s safe to say that it just wasn’t their night. And on the contrary, the Hawks were sizzling hot in Milwaukee.
After trailing by as many as 16 points in the 2nd quarter, Atlanta turned this game around by shooting unconscious from deep. They hit 8 - 3’s in the 3rd period on 50% efficiency, building a 12 point lead. Playing just 26 minutes in this game, Giannis couldn’t do much when he returned to action. Antetokounmpo got to his 24 points on 67% from the field, but it was too little too late, as the Hawks were already too high to reach. Nickeil Alexander Walker led the balanced attack with 23 points in a crucial win for the play-in, as they’re now 5 games ahead of Milwaukee. Knowing that, Giannis was fuming at the end… And the Hornets are slowly escaping them as well, as last night they unexpectedly cruised past Boston.
Ooooii, Brandon Miller detonates the one handed slam through the Celtics defense, putting Charlotte up by 14 already. Down by 22 in the 2nd, Jaylen Brown tried to replicate that, hoping he could spark a comeback.
