Rudy Grant Recollects how the concept of the song came about ,"How i wrote the song is very simple. I was in a room one day and a few friends were watching the Oprah show and when the commercial break came up a woman said she loved Oprah because she is so different from the rest and the other woman said yes i love her too because she is rich and black and i said wait a minute she is just like me and you and they both watched me and laughed out loud. I knew then they didn't really understand what i had said to them. About 5yrs before that i had sung Oprah's name 12 times on tape and
before i left the radio station where i sang the voices in the studio i asked
Colin Charles a friend to transfer what i had sung onto a mini disc. I wrote the
song in 2008 and started recording it in 2009 with a friend of mine called Errol
Reid in London. It then took me another 2yrs to finish. I also used another
friend of mine Frank Agarrat of Trinidad to mix the track at The BlueWave Studio Barbados. The backing vocals were sung by my brother Eddy Grant , Jackie Robinson and Indra Rudder . I would also like to thank Mr Viking and Commander for the help they gave me in completing this track". -Rudy Grant
