On July 30, 2024, the State Board of Education held a public hearing regarding the proposed GPS and GPS Plus high school diplomas. If approved, these would replace the current high school diplomas, including the Core 40 and Academic Honors diplomas.

State Representatives from the Indiana House Democratic Caucus Carey Hamilton, Cherrish Pryor, Mike Andrade, Earl Harris Jr., Victoria Garcia Wilburn, Sue Errington and Chris Campbell all appeared to testify.

Hoosier high school students should exist in the context of all in which they live - and robust diploma requirements in world history, foreign languages, science, math, and economics ensure that they do. We're concerned that if Indiana Republicans' current high school diploma plan goes forward and eliminates or reduces these requirements, our high school graduates will have the knowledge and skills of someone who just fell out of a coconut tree. 🥥🌴
