Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson suggested cutting 6% of the state’s budget to offset multi-billion-dollar shortfalls, but lawmakers on both sides of the aisle said fire suppression funding should not be touched.

The issue is an example of the kind of hard decisions that face the legislature after the Governor’s declaration, which came before he officially took office on Wednesday, Jan. 15.
