If you are trying to decide if it is worth getting the cheapest vacuum pump for your Harvest Right freeze dryer but not sure what exactly is involved in changing the oil often, then this video is for you. Harvest Right has on their website that the oil needs to be changed every 4-5 runs and that it takes only 2-3 minutes. We decided to film an actual oil change and as you can see this video is 12:48 minutes long. Yes, the change itself is only 2-3 minutes but you have to filter the oil, manage containers, etc. The best tip ever was to freeze the oil before you filter it so the sludge and water stays at the bottom of the container and not bugger up the filter.
