A. Trump's Tariff Shocks – Impact on India
On April 2, 2025, Donald Trump announced “reciprocal tariffs” – meaning if another country charges high duties on US goods, the US will now match them.

India currently charges 52% on US products, so Trump imposed a 26% tariff on Indian exports, starting April 5 (initial 10%, then the remaining 16%).

This will mainly affect jewellery, chemicals, and metal sectors, but pharma is excluded, so medicine exports remain safe.

India exports $74 billion worth of goods to the US – including $8.5B jewellery, $8B pharma, and $4B petrochemicals.

Experts (SBI, Goldman Sachs, Nomura, etc.) say India won’t be severely hit, as medicines, energy, and semiconductors are excluded, and India has a strong domestic market.

B. BSNL Causes ₹1,757 Crore Loss to Govt
According to the CAG, BSNL did not charge Jio for using its telecom towers from 2014 to 2024, violating their agreement.

This led to a ₹1,757 crore loss to the government.

There were also other revenue losses due to underbilling and not deducting license fees.

Now, stricter policies are expected from the government.

C. US Stock Market Crash After Tariff News
After Trump’s announcement, US markets fell sharply:

S&P 500 down 4%

Nasdaq down 5.1%

This drop was close to pandemic-level crashes.

Investors fear rising inflation and slowing growth.

Economists predict if these tariffs are implemented, US GDP may drop by 2% and inflation could rise to 5%.

Stocks of major companies like Best Buy (-15.2%), United Airlines (-12.3%), and Target (-10.3%) fell.

D. V-Mart Stock Jumps 12.9%
On April 2, 2025, V-Mart's stock rose 12.9% to ₹3,333 after a strong business update.

Q4 revenue rose 17% YoY to ₹780 crore, but LimeRoad’s revenue fell 47% to ₹8 crore.

V-Mart added 13 new stores, mostly in Tier-III and rural areas.

Founder Lalit Agarwal said the company is targeting double-digit growth in FY26, especially if the monsoon is good.

E. Airtel Strengthens Partnership with Nokia
Airtel and Nokia are working together on advanced 4G/5G integration, which will run both technologies on a single server setup.

This will reduce manual work, cut costs, and improve service speed and reliability.

Nokia already provides key tech like VoLTE and subscriber systems to Airtel.

F. HAL Shares Surge 6% After Defence Deal
HAL stock jumped 6% on April 1, 2025, after signing ₹62,700 crore defence contracts with the Indian government.

Contracts include:

66 Light Combat Helicopters (IAF)

90 LCHs (Indian Army)

Also includes training and equipment.

Stock is currently 45% above its 52-week low.

G. Haldiram Adds Two New Investors
After Temasek’s $1B investment for a 10% stake, Haldiram’s valuation is now $10 billion.

Now, Alpha Wave and IHC have joined as new investors (amount undisclosed).

Funds will help expand in US and Middle East markets.

The deal is under regulatory approval and will close soon.
