Gandai Turns 2!

Описание к видео Gandai Turns 2!

The western lowland gorillas received special enrichment to celebrate World Gorilla Day on September 24—and celebrated an early birthday for the youngest gorilla at Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens!

Gandai was born on September 28, 2018 to mother Kumbuka. Kumbuka is deaf and wasn't able to care for Gandai properly, so animal care staff intervened to provide around-the-clock to Gandai until she was introduced to her surrogate mother, Bulera.

Gandai is now a healthy, happy two year old. Her story is a testament to the top-notch care she received from animal care staff and the support from our community.

Did you know all four subspecies of gorillas are facing extinction?

We support the efforts of Gorilla Rehabilitation and Conservation Education Center (GRACE), a nonprofit that partners with local communities to rehabilitate and conserve critically endangered Grauer’s gorillas in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Grauer’s gorillas have suffered a catastrophic 77% population decline over the past 20 years.

A portion of every visit and membership purchased helps support over 45 conservation programs around the world—like GRACE.
