When I lived in Maui for five months, I was treated to some of the most amazing sights in the world. Maui truly is the most beautiful place in the world. I knew I had to do something I loved at as many special places as possible. This is the result of that effort.

So, you guys may have noticed that these are public shots. Here's how I avoided getting the cops called on me.

1. BRIGHT COLORED RIFLE - Nobody thinks you're going to shoot someone up with a bright orange rifle. It turns a menacing piece into a curious piece.

2. DRILL RELATED APPAREL - Wear a Safety Shirt if you have one (this was filmed before Safety Shirts existed), or an FTA shirt that clearly says DRILL. People understand what drill is, but they need to be refreshed that it's what they're seeing.


3. REMOVE SIGHTS, TRIGGER, BARREL, BAYONET - You'll notice that my most public shots are bladeless. This was not an accident. If you're in a high traffic area, do not use a bayonet. Always remove sights and trigger, and remove barrel in public situations (or atleast while you're walking with it. You can replace the barrel before spinning if you absolutely need it).

4. SPIN IMMEDIATELY - The sooner you throw a triple and display your skills, the sooner people calm down.

5. SMILE, GREET PEOPLE, ACCEPT COMPLIMENTS, ENGAGE CONVERSATIONS, AND DIFFUSE SITUATIONS - Some people will still be timid. Smile at them. Wave. Lower your shoulders and appear smaller (now's not the time for macho pride posture. Save that for when they feel comfortable). If you see someone reach for their phone with a worried look, smile, spin, and work to engage them.

6. HAVE A BUDDY TO HELP - An unarmed buddy with a camera can help people understand what you're doing even more. Further, when people see other calm people surrounding you, they will be more curious than scared.

7. WHEN YOU'RE EXHAUSTED, PLACE THE RIFLE ON THE GROUND - Don't stand around with your rifle in hand. New people won't understand what's happening. When you pick up the rifle again, spin immediately.

8. DEMONSTRATE COMMON SENSE - Don't point the rifle at anyone. Don't aim down the sights. Avoid throws that might go wild. etc.
